Parish School Groups

St Bernadette’s School Parents Group

The St Bernadette’s Parents’ Group was set up to give parents an opportunity to participate in the life of the parish school. Its aims are -
  • to provide funds and support for the school
  • to promote ways for all associated with the school to meet socially
  • to provide support for families in the school who need it, and
  • to promote wider interest in the principles and methods of education in schools, particularly at St Bernadette’s
The Parents’ Group tries to meet these aims through four committees (Fundraising, Social, Community and Education), which meet at least once each school term. The entire Parents’ Group also meets each term, and hears reports from each committee as well as from the School Principal and Parents’ Group Executive. All interested members of the Parish and School communities are welcome to attend these meetings – watch the school newsletter for dates.

St Bernadette’s School Parents Group - Fundraising Committee

One of the aims of the St Bernadette’s Parents’ Group is to support the parish school via the raising of funds to buy much needed resources and equipment. The fundraising committee runs events such as raffles, walkathons, an annual trivia night, and even the occasional fete, in an effort to meet this aim. This committee appreciates the support of parents and parishioners over the years, and through the efforts of many has been able to provide some significant resources for the school, including the large shade cloth, new desks for all classrooms and improved school technology and teaching resources.

St Bernadette’s School Parents Group - Social Committee

One of the aims of the St Bernadette’s Parents’ Group is to provide a means for social contact between members of the school and wider parish community. The social committee of the Parents’ Group runs events throughout the school year for both adults and children. One event that is always widely anticipated is the annual ‘Gardenia Globes’ – a great night of fun, food, music and dancing. The children’s disco is perhaps a quieter affair, but is equally popular amongst the younger community members. This committee has also organised movie nights, BBQs and luncheons for the Melbourne Cup or other events, and always welcomes new helpers and participants for the planned events.

St Bernadette’s School Parents Group - Community Group

One of the aims of the St Bernadette’s Parents’ Group is to provide support for members of the parish school community when it is needed. The Community committee has a number of activities and groups that try to meet this aim, including running a clothing pool and the ‘Kiss and Drop’ service at school. Assistance is available in the form of meals, transport or support for new mums or Kindy parents. The Craft group also come under this banner. This committee symbolises the true community spirit in our parish school.

St Bernadette’s School Parents Group - Education Committee

One of the aims of the St Bernadette’s Parents’ Group is to promote wider interest in the principles and methods of education in schools, particularly at the parish school. The Education committee tries to meet this aim through its roles of liaising with the Diocesan Parent Representative Council (PRC), disseminating school information to the parent community and providing educational input. This may take the form of guest speakers or displays, such as those set up at school Parent-Teacher interviews. This committee has also set up a display stand in the school foyer where members of the school and parish community can find pamphlets on a wide variety of educational and parenting issues.
